Metrics

Contact rate

Contact rate is the share of people on a list who are reached at least once, rather than the share of dials that connect. It measures list coverage over a campaign, where connect rate measures efficiency per attempt.

How it is measured

Unique people reached ÷ unique people on the list, over the campaign. Attempts do not enter the numerator — reaching one prospect on the fifth try counts once.

The two metrics answer different questions and are routinely conflated. A team can have an excellent connect rate and a poor contact rate if it dials the same reachable subset repeatedly while never reaching the rest of the list — which is a common failure of cadence tooling that retries recent numbers first.

Contact rate is the honest measure of whether your data is usable. It falls when numbers are stale, when a list is switchboard-heavy, or when the callable window for a segment does not match when your reps dial.
