STIR/SHAKEN is the framework US carriers use to cryptographically attest that a call is coming from the number it claims. Calls are signed with an attestation level — A, B or C — and low attestation contributes to a call being labelled or blocked.
Attestation describes what the originating carrier can vouch for. Full attestation (A) means the carrier knows the customer and knows they have the right to use that number. Partial (B) means the customer is known but the number’s provenance is not. Gateway (C) means neither.
For an outbound team the practical consequence is that how your numbers are provisioned affects whether your calls are trusted. Numbers obtained through a provider that can attest fully behave differently from numbers routed through intermediaries, and it is a fair question to put to any dialer vendor: what attestation level do calls placed through you carry?
