Caller ID reputation is the score carriers and call-blocking apps assign to a phone number based on how it behaves — call volume, answer rates, call durations and user complaints. A poor score gets calls labelled, filtered or silently blocked before anyone chooses to answer.
Reputation is assigned to the number, not to the company, and it is computed from patterns that ordinary outbound sales produces naturally: high volume, short durations, low answer rates and many unique destinations. A number doing exactly what a cold-calling rep needs it to do looks, statistically, like a nuisance caller.
The damage shows up in answer rate before it shows up anywhere else — carriers begin filtering before a human ever decides whether to pick up. Rehabilitating a flagged number is slow and unreliable, so the standard practice is to rotate across a pool and retire the burned ones.
This is why phone numbers are a recurring cost rather than a one-off. Where vendors meter them, numbers run roughly $10–15 each per month, and the category provisions around ten per rep.
